Search changed. Most websites did not.
People still Google things. They also ask ChatGPT for a recommendation, get an AI summary at the top of a search result, and never click through to anyone's website at all.
That shift rewards a specific kind of site: one a machine can read, understand and quote confidently. Most small business websites are not that. Not because they are badly built, but because nobody has told the machines what the business actually is, where it operates, or what it charges.
We fix that. It is a fixed-price piece of work, usually done within a month, and you get evidence of every single change.
What we look at
- Whether search engines can tell what each page is actually about
- Whether your business details are published in a form machines can read
- Whether AI crawlers are allowed to reach your site at all
- Page speed, image weight and what that costs you on mobile
- Broken links, dead pages and anything quietly returning an error
- Whether your content answers the questions people are actually asking
- Missing or duplicated page descriptions in search results
Why we check everything by hand
There is no shortage of tools that will scan your website and produce a long list of problems. We use them too. They are a starting point, not an answer.
When we ran one across our own site, it confidently told us to add a specific piece of markup to two pages. Following that instruction would have meant publishing structured data describing content that was not on those pages, which is exactly the sort of thing Google issues manual penalties for. The same report flagged a contact form as broken. It was working perfectly. The tool simply could not run JavaScript, so it saw a fallback message that no real visitor ever sees.
Two wrong findings out of seven. If we had run that report across our client sites unchecked, we would have made sixty websites worse and billed for the privilege.
So every finding gets verified against your actual site before it goes anywhere near a quote. It is slower. It is also the entire point.
What we actually change
Most of the work is structural and invisible to you, which is why so few people do it properly.
We make sure every page tells search engines what it is about, rather than describing your navigation menu. We publish your business details, locations and services in the format Google and AI assistants read. We fix the broken links, compress the images that are slowing your pages down, and write the descriptions that appear underneath your listing in search results.
Then we look at the content itself. AI assistants quote reasoning, not service lists. A page that answers a real question in its first two lines gets surfaced. A page that lists what you offer, with no explanation of why it matters, does not.
What we will not sell you
There is a lot of noise in this area at the moment, and a lot of it is being sold confidently.
The clearest example is a file called llms.txt, which is widely promoted as a way to tell AI systems about your site. Google has said publicly that Search does not use it. Their own search advocates have compared it to the old keywords tag, and independent tracking suggests the overwhelming majority of these files are never requested by anything. If you want one, we will add it in five minutes at no charge, but we are not going to put it on an invoice.
The same goes for guaranteed rankings, guaranteed traffic figures, and scores from SEO tools presented as though they came from Google. They did not. We report against things you can check yourself.
How it works
1. Audit. We review your site properly, code included, not just the public pages. You get a plain English report of what we found, what it means for your business, and what we would do about it. No jargon, and nothing in it that we have not verified.
2. Quote. A fixed price, based on the actual findings. Because the diagnosis happens first, there are no surprises later.
3. Fix. Usually two to four weeks, depending on what the audit turns up and how busy the studio is. We agree a date with you before we start, and your site stays live throughout.
4. Evidence. A before and after summary using measures you can independently confirm, plus a list of checks you can run yourself in under a minute.
Does this work for sites we did not build?
Yes. Most of what we do here is standard WordPress and Shopify work, and we are just as happy improving somebody else's build as our own.
If we find something structurally wrong that is outside the scope of this work, we will tell you plainly rather than quietly working around it. Occasionally the honest answer is that a site is old enough that rebuilding costs less than patching, and if that is the case we would rather say so than take the money.
Common questions
Is this different from normal SEO?
It overlaps. Classic SEO is about ranking in a list of blue links. This covers that, and adds the work needed to be understood and quoted by AI assistants, which increasingly answer the question before anyone reaches a list of links at all. In practice a lot of the same fixes serve both.
Will this get me to the top of Google?
We cannot promise that, and neither can anyone else. What this does is remove the technical obstacles stopping your site competing properly. Where you land after that depends on your competitors, your content and how people search, none of which we control. Anyone guaranteeing a position is guessing.
How will I know it worked?
You get a before and after on things you can verify independently: whether your business details register in Google's own testing tool, whether every page describes its own topic correctly, how many broken links remain, how much your pages weigh. We do not report against a score from an SEO tool, because you cannot check it and a competitor with a different tool would give you a different number.
How long before I see a difference?
Search engines usually take several weeks to re-crawl and reassess a site after changes like these. It is not overnight, and anyone suggesting otherwise is selling something.
What does it cost?
It depends on the size of the site and what the audit turns up. Small sites are at the lower end and it scales from there. The audit comes first, so you get a fixed figure before committing to any of the work.
Do I need this if someone already handles my SEO?
Possibly not. Send us their last report and we will tell you honestly whether there is a gap worth filling. If there is not, we will say so.
